Sitting in the Sunshine

My scars look prominent today
Or maybe it's the way the shadow falls on them in this lighting
But I can see 3 regrettable lines
Of a time when I didn't want to be here
And now I think back and cry
Caring more for myself
When I was 15 years old
And everything that I could want in my own child
The rebellious nature, courage, and strength
With hopes they'll be driven to indulge in life's pleasures, arts, people
Without these 3 lines that wrap around my wrist, but not my heart
